About
Now located in Burbank, California, Kevin originally majored in composition at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, studying composition with George Akerley and minoring in piano, under the tutelage of concert pianist Annette DiMedio, Ph.D. During his senior year in Philadelphia, he attended a seminar at Curtis Institute of Music given by two-time Grammy and Oscar winner for best film score, John Corigliano. Subsequently, Corigliano asked Kevin to study privately with him in New York. While studying with Corigliano, Kevin pursued a Masters degree at the City University of New York. His clients are well served because of his musical education. His experience and ability to interpret their needs from start to finish is an asset to any project.
Film Composer
Kevin has written scores for almost 30 film projects; clips for some of them can be seen and heard on this website. He won best film score at the NYU First Run Film Festival (The Underdogs, directed by Jim Mickle). Films that he has worked on as a composer have won such awards as first place in Philadelphia’s WHYY Independent Annual Film Competition, first place in New Jersey’s Young Film Makers Festival and the Silver Certificate Award at the Atlantic City Film Festival. Kevin has written music for five interstitials that were broadcasted for various children’s programming on PBS nationwide from 1999 to 2008. Since publishing the interstitials on his YouTube channel four years ago, he has over 30,000 views. He also composed the theme music for The Women’s United Soccer League in 2001 (the first season the league started), and supplied supplemental music for the DVD Artisan Home Entertainment’s major motion picture, Standing in the Shadows of Motown DVD, Special Features.Classical Composer
Kevin has written a string quartet, a piano concerto, a sonata for cello and piano, an Elegy for Piano Trio, pieces for violin and piano and solo piano, a flute suite, and a suite for woodwind quintet. His Flute Suite in D Major, from 2016, for flute and piano and his Winter in the Woods, from 2018, for alto flute and prepared piano, both pieces recorded by Rebecca Jeffreys, are currently in rotation on Pandora Radio and on over 100 individual terrestrial classical radio stations throughout the United States, Canada, South America and various stations in Europe. The Elegy for Piano Trio, which was written for Dr. Annette DiMedio, has been performed by her throughout the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. Orchestrator
Besides orchestrating every film score Kevin has composed, he has also orchestrated two different Christmas musicals at The Broadway Theater of Pitman, in New Jersey, for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. For the 2017 original Christmas musical, One Unforgettable Christmas, he also wrote two original songs for the musical. The previous year, he orchestrated, produced and recorded the cast album for the original musical, Once Upon a Christmas Dream for the 2016 musical at The Broadway Theater of Pitman. The theater has approximately 9000 patrons attend the Christmas performances each year. Some of the songs from the cast album, Once Upon a Christmas Dream, can be heard on this website.
Producer
Kevin has personally composed, produced, arranged and/or engineered hundreds of projects and seen many full album projects to their completion. He has worked in various genres such as, pop, rock, jazz, Latin jazz, classical, opera and many others, some of which can also be heard here on this website.
Community Involvement
Before leaving for the Los Angeles area in 2019, Kevin was involved with various organizations throughout the Philadelphia area.
Up until the final season of 2018, he was the President of The Steinway Society of South Jersey; a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children in the teaching and appreciation of piano music. The Steinway Society of South Jersey held several solo piano performances each year, including a Young Pianist competition.
Kevin taught piano at The Original Paul Green School of Rock and reported directly to Paul Green himself at the Center City Philadelphia chapter. He has taught and worked with interns at mSound Recording Studios, many of whom have been affiliated through The University of the Arts, Temple University, The Philadelphia Center, and Albright College, just to name a few.
Kevin was also one of the founding members of the Philadelphia Recording Community. This organization started with only 15 and is now comprised of over 4,300 artisan members affiliated with recording and music in the Philadelphia area; they hold various meetings throughout the year. In growing the organization, seminars were incorporated at the gatherings and Kevin has had the pleasure of lecturing on various subjects such as composing music for film, creating dynamic musical arrangements for recordings, sound engineering, how digital audio works, and the significance of parallel compression.
Kevin has authored several articles published in Origivation Magazine (now called THAT MAG) in Philadelphia, on various subjects such as the direction of digital audio for the future and the status of local recording studios. He has judged and/or lectured about music composition for film, sound engineering and mixing for film, ADR, recording, and location sound for film for various institutions such as Temple University, The University of the Arts, Albright College, The Philadelphia Center, The Philadelphia Film Festival, and The City Paper Film Festival.
